University Computer Club

The University Computer Club has specific user computer access policies, which are contained below.

UCC Unix/Network Account Form:

This policy was drafted in 1995. It is still current.

Any account issued through the UCC are provided with the understanding that the recipient will behave in a responsible manner. If the account is used to access other accounts, machine, or facilities, the guidelines for the UCC account are in addition to those of the facility being accessed. NOTE: Ignorance of any guideline or rule is not an adequate reason for the violation of that guideline or rule.
Fundamental guidelines include (but are not restricted to):

  • Not attempting to break security in any way, without prior (and continued) permission from the administration of all machines and networks concerned.
  • Not indulging in excessive*, unnecessary*, or abusive* mail or news posting, or other network usage.
  • Not annoying the machine or network administrators.
  • Showing common courtesy to all users of the machine.
  • Not participating in any illegal activities.
  • Obeying all guidelines for the network the machine is connect to which specifically include the UWA Network Security and Privacy Policy and AARNet Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Quietly vacating your terminal if you are not engaged in productive* work while someone else wishes to do so, or during UCC meetings.
  • Not disclosing your password to any other person, without permission of the administrator of that machine.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that no other person uses your account for any reason whatsoever.
  • Excessive use of network bandwidth may be charged for at commercial rates.
    * As defined by the administration of the machine or network. In particular, this includes (but isn't limited to) anything that costs the club significant network traffic or could cause problems for UCC.
