Guidelines for admission to UCC groups

This document was written to clarify and inform all UCC members of the procedure for joining important groups for the functioning of UCC, and provide a more equitable method for doing so.

The groups covered by this policy are:

People may approach committee and request that they be considered for membership of a UCC group. Any member of a group may suggest that a person be considered for membership (if that person agrees). In general, wheel group only accepts nominations by existing group members.

Before someone joins a group, all members of the committee and wheel must be informed with at least 48 hours to comment and register objections for further discussion before a final decision is made by committee. Two or more committee members may call for the final decision to be postponed until the next committee meeting. For Coke and Door groups, the generally-accepted way of providing this notice is by mail to cokegroup@ucc or doorgroup@ucc respectively.

The committee has also asked that any applicants for Coke group complete an aptitude test to familiarise themselves with the coke system.

The committee has also asked that any applicants for Door group complete an aptitude test as well. Please feel free to ask a committee, door or even wheel member for help if you have trouble with any of the questions.

When a person joins a UCC group they will be informed of all relevant documentation, including ethical and other responsibilities. On joining, they must sign a form stating they will fulfil their responsibilities to the best of their ability where possible.

A two-thirds majority of the entire UCC committee must agree for a person to be admitted to, or removed from a UCC group. If necessary, a person may be removed from a group immediately by the committee. Before someone is admitted to wheel, a two-thirds majority of wheel must agree with this.

If someone is removed from a UCC group without their agreement by committee then the group and the person will be informed, including reasons for this. The committee may be approached at a committee meeting to discuss this.
