it has 29 storeys, of which the lowest are underwater; it caters for humanoid residents only We visited Old Town looking at cheap accommodations, and will return to a hostel for a free night's stay offered by the owners In the afternoon, we visited the Tidal Splash, a completely underwater hotel (one of only two here) that caters for cetacean and aquaform residents only In the evening, we return to the hostel (the Poor Porpoise) and meet Richard Evans, a human longjohn miner; we learn various important things from him, such as the need to get the Yellow Submarine fast fungus- sprayed; he will leave on a prospecting expedition tomorrow, in his submarine ("Nessie"), and we decide to join him (the entire trip should take 30 days) Player Note Yellow Submarine cleaned (100 cs) and fast fungus- sprayed (100 cs)--should be good for six months; took about 15 minutes; company funds now 6880 cs That same evening, we go equipment shopping north of HIST again; explorers' rations are 10 cs per day, and most on Poseidon can do with half-rations each day because the rations were designed for intensive land exploration (e.g., hiking) Player Note For a 30-day journey, allowing 0.5 rations per day for JB and 1 ration pack per day for TI, with 5 ration packs as a back-up, comes to 50 ration packs (10 cs each)--500 cs; company funds now 6380 cs Player Note We buy a solar blanket (allows slow recharging of most electrically-powered equipment) for 350 cs; company funds now 6030 cs Player Note We reclaim funds from harbour fees (30 days, 10 cs per day, total 300 cs) and hovercraft rental (30 days, 40 cs per day [with discount], total 1200 cs); company funds now 7530 cs Player Note We buy two solar stills (distill fresh water) for 50 cs each; company funds now 7430 cs On the way back to the harbour, we film police chasing and arresting young hooligans in a stolen car, hopping over traffic in our hovercraft as we do; later, TI interviewed GEO Sergeant Kendall and spent the night editing the film Player Note Paint scraped from hovercraft during chase, charged 200 cs by the rental company; company funds now 7230 cs Wed 01.09.2199 We sold our story to Janice of the BBC for 1500 cs; company funds now 8730 cs; the story will air on tonight's news Richard asks to install some sensor software on the Yellow Submarine; we agree, first making a full back-up of our sub's systems We buy a harness so that the Yellow Sub can tow LF along (200 cs); she has an artificial gill and so will not need to surface to breathe; company funds now 8530 cs We say good-bye to the Buch-Larsens at the Culloden Hotel and set sail with Richard, towards the area north of Westscape (we will stop at Fort Pacifica to refuel); this will be the Yellow Submarine's first serious voyage on Poseidon After an uneventful day's cruising, about 20 m below the surface, we surface and watch our car chase story on BBC Thu 02.09.2199 Richard couldn't pick up the weather reports today, so there may be a storm ahead, in which case, cruise deeper, under 200 m (the seabed here is around 400 m); each night, we are cruising at 20 m depth on autopilot, with proximity alarms set to go In the evening, JB cracks the password on Shere Khan's computer files, which LF had copied from her computer before the Gorchovs took it Fri 03.09.2199 We have clear skies in the morning, and no storm; LF spots an island nearby that isn't on Richard's charts We investigate the island, with Richard charging us 50 cs since it's taking him away from his expedition; company funds now 8480 cs The island is actually a floating island--a reefer colony--about 100 m in diameter, made from coral; there are a few trees growing on it LF gives TI a lift to the island, where he stuns a small animal (a chub, Richard tells us) with orange- smoke stun grenades and his stun pistol (after several shots); Richard hunts a chub down and cooks it Tue 07.09.2199 After a few uneventful days of sailing, we arrive in Fort Pacifica, a GEO base southwest of Haven, and refuel (one tank of fuel costs 1000 cs; 5 cs per l, tank is 200 l; 16 km/l at cruising speed; range 3200 km at cruising speed); company funds now 7480 cs We discover that one of the dockhands, Johnson, was recently taken away for medical treatment after fungus attacked his brain and rendered him mentally ill There are a couple of GEO attack submarines docked here and most of the personnel seem to be technically- oriented soldiers; we also note that they do not wear unit badges We find that Beau's Stand, a prison base run by Hanover Corporation, lies to the south That evening, we socialise with the soldiers in the mess hall, and JB challenges a sniper to a shooting contest The contest is the best of five shots, with JB using his hunting rifle and the GEO soldier using his sniping rifle; JB wins, shooting narrowly closer to the bull's eye than the soldier, Corporal Martin (first name), on each of the first three shots; afterwards, Martin takes a shot with JB's rifle, landing a little closer, and JB takes a shot with Martin's rifle, landing a little further out Wed 08.09 2199 We set off with Richard again, heading southwest; since we're in rougher open seas, we will cruise at 30 m instead of 20 m JB continues sifting through Shere Khan's files Sat 11.09.2199 After a few uneventful days of sailing, we arrive in the target region, north of Westscape; we will be prospecting for five days Wed 15.09.2199 After finding nothing, we start turning north, but spot a large object about 10 km away; after a while, it changes course and starts heading towards us, but stops at 2.5 km away; it's a corporate attack submarine, commanded by Commander Serten of Atlas Holdings; it seems that we noticed the flat, manta-like submarine before they noticed us; after a brief discussion, it heads off We decide to head eastward, along a line of atolls, while Richard goes back the way we came; he first downloads his charts to our computer before heading off Company status: - it is around 12:00 PM on Wed 15.09.2199 - we are heading east from just north of Westscape, exploring along the Serendipity Atoll - company equipment on the Yellow Submarine: 1 solar blanket, 2 solar stills, and a cetacean towing harness - fuel will last for another 2200 km (approx.), rations will last another 15 days (plus 5 ration packs back-up) - CommCore access paid until 24.08.2201 (180 cs per two years) - 100000 cs at 20% p.a. owed to the North Bank - company funds: 7480 cs ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
