Dear Glenn, Sophie, and Simon, Here's the first draft of the latest JoLT report. I've separated the company information into its own document, which is also appended below. Please e-mail corrections/modifications to me. Regards, Yean Wei. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JoLT! Report 5.0 Company status: - it is around 10:00 AM on Thu 07.10.2199 - we are just reaching New Fremantle - we have approx. 125 l of fuel (2000 km range, 41.7% of capacity) - we have 34 ration packs, which will keep JB/TI fed for 22.7 days - we have 16 luxury ration packs, which will keep RM fed for 16 days - LF's cicada needs major repairs - we have HIST project subscription paid until 26.08.2200 - we have CommCore access paid until 24.08.2201 - we owe 100000 cs at 20% p.a. to the North Bank; first interest payment of 20000 cs will be due 31.12.2199 - company funds currently 11555 cs Thu 07.10.2199 - we docked in New Fremantle - paid 3 days' docking fees (10 cs/day) -30 cs - refueled the Yellow Submarine (5 cs/l, 175 l) -875 cs - New Fremantle (pop. between approx. 15000-25000) - around 10 years old; a lot of construction work going on - Hydrospan's headquarters on Poseidon (Earth headquarters in Perth) - major GEO base here - city is mostly underwater; heavy cetacean presence and facilities - buildings above sea level distributed on immense 'rafts' - most people here work for Hydrospan - TI talked to Adrian, a GEO accountant from London, Earth; Adrian recommended the Blue Danube nightclub as a good place to socialise - JB brought LF's damaged cicada in for repairs; Fixer (male dolphin) repaired the cicada in a short time (less than 20 minutes)--replaced one damaged circuit board and replaced front panels - initial quote -100 cs - repairs minus initial quote -400 cs - Rosita Mercy went shopping - we started investigating an identity assassin--someone who had been electronically erasing people's accounts/records in New Fremantle recently - we interviewed John Adamson (20 years, male human, HIST marine engineering student), first of the crime victims - lives with his parents; older (married) brother on Earth - father contracted to Hydrospan - doing his course by telepresence - Hydrospan installed telepresence facilities (very expensive) in all houses in New Fremantle - we visited the home of Gail Inno, the latest victim (records erased yesterday), but she wasn't in - talked briefly to father of two children, next door - we visited Janice Kepler (45 years, female human, Hydrospan human resources officer) - appears to live alone - approx. 87% of the population here works for Hydrospan - we visited Simon Leon (30 years, male human diver aquaform, unemployed marine engineer), another of the crime victims - appears to live alone - a native, born on Poseidon (in Kingston) - worked for Hydrospan recently - TI was suspicious of Simon, so we tailed him to the Breakwater Tavern (now around lunchtime) - using his remote bug, TI catches part of a conversation that indicates that Simon is an agent of the New Rastafarian Movement, an anti-Earth political movement - LF contacted Builder (male dolphin), one of the crime victims, and we interviewed him next - works under Platform 5 - civil engineer (specialising in seascaping) for Hydrospan - says that the New Rastafarian Movement is based in the New Jamaica chain of islands - we tried calling Gail Inno; still not in, so TI leaves e-mail - we tracked down John Adamson's gamer friends to briefly interview them - from CommCore research, we find that Kingston and other parts of New Jamaica don't accept GEO authority because they see it as an Earth organisation, not a Poseidon organisation - from CommCore research, three of the victims bought bodycomps from companies whose software was supplied by Advanced Software, located in the city of Simushir (headquarters of the Nippon Industrial State [NIS]--a major Incorporate organisation) - TI found that Advanced Software is a company registered by Shah Kelkin; found a link to Shah Kelkin's running relay race results associated with Cooper's Ferry on the island of Prime Meridian - TI and Rosita go partying in the evening - TI rented a room in a hotel within 1 km of the Breakwater Tavern to maintain link with his remote bug in the tavern - Rosita stayed in her own hotel for the night Fri 08.10.2199 - LF caught up with her friends in New Fremantle - TI and JB went bodycomp shopping to buy a test bodycomp to examine Advanced Software's software; low-end bodycomps cost 200-300 cs; Advanced Software is a 'local' software company - bought a new low-end bodycomp -200 cs - bought high-end wireless network diagnostic software -500 cs - TI and JB started analysing signals from the test bodycomp, using the diagnostic software - TI and JB visited Gail Inno's house at approx. 7:30 PM; no one in - from CommCore research, JB found that Gail was a witness to a mugging-murder case last year - we analysed the data from the test bodycomp; no significant findings due to our lack of expertise with wireless networking - TI and JB went out to look for hacker contacts while LF continued searching CommCore - sent the data to an anonymous expert hacker for analysis - analysis fee -600 cs - LF found that Advanced Software only had contact details publicly available; no indications of what type(s) of software it deals in, which was very unusual (i.e., no advertising) - TI took Rosita to a hydroshot game; Hydrospan vs. GenDiver vs. another team - TI loudly barracked for GenDiver, by far the least popular team - Rosita was amused - JB monitored the test bodycomp and waited for analysis results - LF found that Gail was to meet someone at the Sky High club two weeks ago - JB and TI (bringing Rosita) went to the Sky High club to search for Gail; JB spotted her dancing there - Gail Inno (20 years, female human, blue-dyed hair) noticed JB's surveillance and took it for romantic interest; approached JB; conversation initiated - marketing and public relations officer for Hydrospan - from France, Earth; on Poseidon for a little over two months - JB talked to Gail and showed her the Yellow Submarine before walking her home and meeting TI and LF in the hotel Sat 09.10.2199 - received results of the data analysis; the Advanced Software code is effectively acting as spyware, monitoring communications from the bodycomp and sending it to an address registered to Advanced Software - in the afternoon, we visited Gail and interviewed her - we analysed further data from the test bodycomp - in the evening, TI contacted the police, and we visited them to report our findings - we spoke to Captain Gregory Jefferson, Hydrospan Security - many of the people working under him are from MacLeod, but the people in charge here are always Hydrospan personnel - our main findings, as summarised by TI - all of the victims had bought bodycomps within the last six months and none of the victims had any particular enemies or reasons why they might be electronically attacked - the bodycomps came from one of three suppliers, and all three used software supplied by Advanced Software, based in Simushir (NIS headquarters city on Poseidon) - Advanced Software was registered by Shah Kelkin (possibly a false name) - expert analysis showed that the software acted as some form of spyware - JB's hypothesis was that the software may be part of a test attack on Hydrospan's networks; the reason for attacking harmless people first might be to not arouse immediate high-level attention from a powerful and rich Incorporate organisation - TI volunteered further assistance seeing as JoLT is an independent company and it was possible for us to visit Simushir - Gregory emphasised that if we were to investigate, we would have to remain within the law ... in New Fremantle, that is; he hinted that rewards would be forthcoming for arrest of the offender(s) by independent captors (i.e., possibly us) - so far, we have spent 1300 cs investigating the New Fremantle identity assassinations Company status: - it is approx. 8:00 PM on Sat 09.10.2199 - we are due to leave New Fremantle tomorrow (or else to pay further docking fees if staying) - we have a full tank of fuel (300 l, 4800 km range) - we have 34 ration packs, which will keep JB/TI fed for 22.7 days - we have 16 luxury ration packs, which will keep Rosita Mercy fed for 16 days - we have HIST project subscription paid until 26.08.2200 - we have CommCore access paid until 24.08.2201 - we owe 100000 cs at 20% p.a. to the North Bank; first interest payment of 20000 cs will be due 31.12.2199 - company funds currently 8850 cs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 020810 Company Notes Game time: Sat 09.10.2199 1.
