Committee meeting - Monday, 1st April, 1996 Present: [JEB] (James Bromberger), David Luyer, Duncan Sargeant, [NTU] (Nick Bannon), Barnes (Barnaby Brown), Ian McKellar, [DGC] (David Chinnery), [SAF] (Simon Fryer), Kym Yeap, David Manchester, [MTL] (Mark Tearle), [POQ] (Shay Telfer). Meeting opened: 1:05pm President's ([JEB]) report: We have a new machine. Machines: Mackerel: Happy, but the 8MB memory board has not been ordered - David Manchester saw an ad for faster CPU boards and larger memory boards in the US. For $600-$700 we could end up with a 32MB SPARC - mail to the list to see if people think this would be a good idea. Marlin: Should be upgraded or replaced sometime. Perhaps make it into a Pentium-100 with 40MB or more RAM? We'll wait until after the mackerel upgrade in any case. Starfish: Still not too happy. Craig's CD may help. UniSFA quiz: We won't involve ourselves in the organisation. UCC Camp: To be discussed on the list. Discussion meeting: RSN. Zone 3: Should have a MTD sometime - end of semester? EMOTD: Should be updated more effectively. It gets pretty out of date. One-line summaries should go into the "real" MOTD. Vending machine: [SD:] (Sophie Divliaev) has found that the Guild are thinking about getting rid of a modern food vending machine - are we interested? The first one needs more work on its brain, and some relays. CCD camera: Needs software work that's been delayed for ages. Basically, we need someone who knows Intel assembler to play with it for a bit. Machine room foam: Arrived, but we need the glue to attach it to the walls. Air Conditioner: Took it out, cleaned the contacts on the thermostat, plugged a leak, and it's working very well. On its coldest setting, a sheet of ice forms on it... Mailing list: Would we like a moderated discussion list? or does the UCC list suffice? Subnet: Hasn't occurred yet. We need to see Penguin (Paul Wagland). Meeting closed: 1:45pm
