Subject: UCC Committee Meeting Minutes Date: Mon, 22 Apr 1996 13:07:00 +0800 X-Venue: loft@cameron-hall.gu.uwa.edu.au X-Present: [JEB] (James Bromberger - Pres.), David Luyer - VP, [DAS] (Duncan Sargeant - OCM), [NTU] (Nick Bannon - Sec.), [SAF] (Simon Fryer), [K?Y] (Kym Yeap - Fresher Rep.), [MJH] (Mikolaj Habryn), [TDH] (David Manchester), [MTL] (Mark Tearle), Yakk (Ian McKellar). President's report: The club is lacking enthusiasm. Machine reports: Marlin: Still slagged due to syslogd, etc. Mackerel: Reasonably happy. No news about upgrade. ACTION: [NTU] will poke Jeff Miller (who was selling the boards). If that upgrade falls through, we'll see if we can get that spare 8MB board from Sun Ripened Kernels. Starfish: Not good. Crashes every so often, locks up, etc. Put on its own power cord as of last week. Moray: Happy. Manta: Down, and may be stagnating a bit. [MTL] and [AJW] (Andrew Williams) are trying to get it to talk to its serial ports. Beige: Anonymous FTP doesn't work. Couldn't connect to and use the SOCKS server using Spiderwoman. [MJH] doesn't think this could be an identd problem as he tested identd on Beige as he set it up. We should get a CD, export it from Beige, and mount it on our FTP site. Anyone got any suggestions? Luggable from ECEL: It's 286, with a detachable screen. 40MB HDD, VGA capable. Has PS/2 comm ports. General Business: Coke group: Peter Wilsmore (djinn), Andrew McColl (Skippy) added. ACTION: Add Leighton Heynes (dayta). [SAF]: Has printed out the Sun hardware FAQ on triple-play fanfold. It says that the first memory board of a Sun 3/280 (ie mackerel) should be in slot 6, which he doesn't think it is... Identd: Doesn't always seem to work - particularly noticeable when using Netscape on starfish - which results in lots of error emails sent to the user and root. DNS: Happy. We are now responsible for our own DNS. AppleTalk: Happy. Penguin (Paul Wagland) fixed it this morning. Coke-credit netusage: Some evil ideas about how to implement it. Work experience/job ad: A company faxed us wanting two Delphi coders for work experience leading into a possible job. ACTION: [NTU] will write them a thankyou note. Two possible applicants should contact the company personally. Phone bill: We were charged for three phone lines. ACTION: Ignore the problem until Shelley Fong returns from holidays at the end of the month. UCC Camp: No news on possible accommodation. ACTION: [SAF] to look into this, as well as [SD:] (Sophie Divliaev). Muslim Students Association: Have been allocated the Cameron Hall loft. 6-7 people will arrive for a small prayer meeting every Uni. day, every 3 hours. 70 or so will arrive for the main prayer meeting on Friday - this could get noisy. It shouldn't affect our Friday evening usage. Campus Services: Should be informed that our mercury vapour light (the one directly over the clubroom) has failed. ACTION: [SAF] will phone them. May drop the words "safety hazards" and "insurance premiums" into his conversation at random. Purchases: Need a memory chip for the 68HC11 board. Would like a DB50 SCSI plug - [SAF] is willing to do the soldering required. ACTION: [MTL] will take [NTU] to get SRAM, and check for DB50's. General Meeting: This Friday, 26th April. Hardware group: Seems fine. Will initially contain [SAF], Jean-Paul Blaquiere and [TDH]. May investigate setting up a discless Linux machine. Meeting closed: 1:33pm
