Subject: UCC Committee Meeting Minutes Date: Fri, 12 July 1996 13:03:00 +0800 X-Venue: loft@cameron-hall.gu.uwa.edu.au X-Present: [JEB] (James Bromberger - Pres.), [NTU] (Nick Bannon - Sec.), [DGC] (David Chinnery - Treas.), [SD:] (Sophie Divliaev - OCM), [DUC] (Duncan Sargeant - OCM), [YAK] (Ian McKellar), [MJH] (Mikolaj Habryn), [SGD] (Terry van Heygen), Rod Swift, Simon Huband. Treasurer's report: +ve ~$1000. Incoming/Outgoing Mail: Cheque to Jolt from a while back has been sent. A _lot_ of nightclub free drink, etc, passes arrived - courtesy of one of Antony Lord's friends. A small boxful of PC cards arrived - but we don't know who from or why... Machine reports: mackerel: Has been dismantled. merman: Now serving /home instead of marlin. marlin: Now using the 2.0.5 Linux kernel. The secure members pages aren't working. We would like a web cache. moray: should go to Debian 1.1. General Business: Auctions: [SGD] will check for interesting things for us - he has the newspaper delivered now... xterm boot software: [SGD] has a friend with software for a wide range of xterms, so there's a good chance of being able to use any xterms that we manage to pick up cheaply. machine naming: Some concerns at the way naming [isn't] organised at the UCC. Should we name machines as a group, or leave it to the actual installers? This is more important as we are running out of decent m-fish names. Motion: "That the club as a whole should choose machine names. Should a machine name not be chosen by installation time, the installers get to choose." 4 for, 2 against. Motion passed. Notice of this should go to ucc-announce. Network traffic: We will now be charged 25 cents a meg, up from 10, for non-PARNet traffic. Hence our SOCKS prices should go to 30 cents a meg, up from 15. We may be receiving some 30 megs/day from our FTP/HTTP? We could try putting a banner on our OLGA mirror, asking for donations to keep it up. Food: Need to buy some more. The vending machine is basically dead. We need another. Coke accounting: Needed. Framegrabber: Not operational - depended on too many machines being up, some of which have undergone major changes. Could be set up again fairly easily... 22nd Anniversary: [SGD] think he can organise it for $10-$15 a head. Guild Catering could do it for $13 a head. We can fall back on a simple gathering in the loft. The start of the mid-semester break sounds like a good time to hold it. General meetings: We were aiming to have them about once a month, but haven't been doing so. We should schedule another. Budget: A summary of it should be sent to ucc-announce. UniGames: Now has the old CRR room (the one with the adjoining door to the UCC). [SGD] has the only key. All clubrooms could be in line for moving - Buildings Committee. There may be plans to vacate Cameron Hall. Has anyone seen the Muslim Society meeting in the loft? It definitely sounds like the GCL is moving, but it hasn't been decided exactly where. Clubroom: Move the lounge-chairs back to the corner? Move the pinboard onto the machine room wall? Important Public Health Announcement: "Don't you go wombling in the nettle beds, my friend. It could be a foolish and painful experience, It would be a rash thing for anyone to contemplate..." Games night: We'd like one soon. Perhaps the first Friday of semester? It could be done after a room cleanup, with discounted pizza for those who helped. Ensure we have access to Marathon. Backup: [MTL] will organise getting one onto DAT. Meeting closed: 1:45pm
