Location: The meeting was held using IRC. For future reference, you can join this by typing "irc" on mermaid, and then "/join #ucc". Flame was having a few problems, but should be perfectly fine if we want to hold the next meeting there. Minutes: No special minutes were taken - I just topped and tailed my IRC logs, and cut out a couple of private messages, etc. In future, we could just add a "scribe" user (probably someone running an extra copy of ircII), or a special Flame scribe. Present: [JEB] (James Bromberger - Pres.), [NTU] (Nick Bannon - Secretary), [SD:] (Sophie Divliaev - OCM), [DUC] (Duncan Sargeant - OCM), [BBB] (Barnaby Brown - OCM), [K?Y] (Kim Yeap - Fresher Rep.), [TDH] (David Manchester - HWO), [AJW] (Andrew Williams), [MJH] (Mikolaj Habryn). Meeting Opened: 8:15pm. President's report: There is still a lot to be done around the club room and with all the preparations for O-Day and other events. I am a little concerned about the idea of the UCC hosting the Star Wars stuff and the risk that we would be running with it, though this has to be a calculated risk. I think that with careful management and a lot more participation in organisation from all would make the event (and the club in general) a lot better, but I fear that we still suffer from the apathy monster. Treasurer's report: We're +ve, but low. $381.90 as of this afternoon, minus about $214 worth of Coke and other drinks. We're OK for now, but need to consider caffienated beverage restocking and the next phone bill. [SD:] handed in the 2nd semester budget to the Guild early this week, the summary of which was given at the last Committee meeting. A rebate should be in the offing. Machine reports: marlin: Handling DNS and outgoing mail. Will queue incoming mail if moray is down, but won't deliver it. Will soon be on the 6bone - ie acting as ipv6 router for the UCC. mermaid: Should be a bit faster now with more, and quicker, RAM. Delivery should be done on a user machine soon, eg mermaid. starfish: Crashing - has a flaky disc. General Business: Future meetings: Meetings in both Real Life (tm) and online have their advantages, but there were some difficulties in working out when to have the next one of either variety. There may _or_may_not_be_ an IRL one on Friday evening. An online meeting next Wednesday 11th seems likely - possibly 6pm, though 2am Thursday 12th was actually more popular... UCC Fridge: Currently dead - does anyone have an old one we could use? Shenton Park: Some people are going over to it tomorrow afternoon. (2pm and 5pm). Between now and Saturday afternoon we need to be rid of as much as possible, and free up Ben for removal. We _do_ need to keep ACC Murphy's original box and cards, plus Ben and bits of Ben. _Lots_ of help is needed - three or four people won't do. Wearing UCC T-shirts would be good, and if anyone could bring over other stuff to be gotten rid of (eg on the blue cupboard near the top doors) 'twould be appreciated. We should be there at 9:30am, to prepare for older UCC members around 10am, then the public at 11am. We will have drinks and biscuits for sale on Saturday - we need the UCC urn back. [JEB] will try to get power/an extension cord organised. Wheel business: Hard disc shuffling: We've got about 2.5GB of decent SCSI disc space scattered about doing nothing. A good plan seems to be that marlin and moray keep their IDE discs as root drives, the Adaptec SCSI card goes into a user machine, marlin's 1GB Hawk goes onto the BeBox, mermaid sticks with its EIDE, smaller drives are used in preference to larger ones for root drives in general when raw speed isn't _too_ vital, and spare SCSI drives gravitate to merman for NFS export-ing. Meeting Closed: 9:30pm.
