Not everything went to plan but it never does. Thanks to everyone concerned. o The president has a battery for the smoke alarm. [MEL] comments that this is the best achivement so far :) Vice-President's Report ----------------------- o Tim Huygen's is arguing over extension cables and is a self confessed retard (with respect to computers at the least:-) o Nobody noticed the problems on O'Day so it doesn't matter. o Thanks to all that setup O'Day and the internet cafe Treasurer's Report ------------------ o In greener pastures. Secretary's Report ------------------ o Probably at work. Didn't send his apologies. Machine Reports --------------- o Some hardware has failed. There is a 2Gb SCSI hard drive outstanding. Anybody that knows where to locate it, please come forward. o NIS is running on dominance. Morwong is a slave. Both NIS and NFS need to be looked at. This will be dealt with after the meeting. o Dispense is broken and doesn't grok NIS. o Airflow in the machine room is a problem. It's <..> hot in there. o Erwin ; we need to repair it. Possible solutions are being discussed. It will leave Dave's bedroom soon. o Morwong is running Digital Unix 4.0D (old). It has no license and can't be used by multiple users. Campus license is $100 per server/year. We get the software, latest and greatest software, FORTRAN compiler upgrades, cool stuff! ($20 per additional workstation.) o [YAK] moves that we allocate $120 to official licenses for Centuri and morwong. Carried by apathy. [NTU] and [GMB] will follow up. o Malki is dead. Two monitors need repair. Donations of a Pentium motherboard welcome, one may be coming from JP. o Azure has a dead disk. The 2Gb was destined for it but has vanished. o Scarlet should become an NFS server. This will benefit all members with 100Mb NFS. We need Azure first though. (www.phobos.com for 100Mb drivers.) General Business ---------------- o Sam for door. People haven't been around much at the moment, and Sam has been here but not able to open the door. [YAK] moves that Sam be put in door. Carried by apathy. o OS/X has been donated by Apple Australia. Many thanks to them for the recent generosity. [MEL] drools over their male staff, who wish to get back in touch with the UCC. They want to extend the presentations for academics at the Uni towards the club. o seek.com.au have spoken to student services, some guy at the guild and us. They want information about the UCC, what we want in terms of jobs. [MEL] has emphasised part time jobs. They're interested in Microsoft, [MEL] explained the free software concept to him. Apparently he hadn't heard a concrete reason for not liking MS before. He may be able to arrange MS certification cheaper for students. o [GMB] has been nominated as acting treasurer. He has a key given to him by bers but it seems to be a house key. Next committee should do better stuff with the keys, perhaps a centralised system with keys in the machine room. o Spending for the last week: o $100 on security cables. o bers got a float of $200 and we banked a `whole bunch of money' o $900 banked and then another $732. $1432 O'Day takings. o [NTU] presents [GMB] with a receipt for $24.50. [GMB] will figure out what to do with it later. [NTU] is reimbursed by [MEL]. o [MEL] arranges the money for [SAM] and [TAM]. o There are events, beer & pizza nights, coming up soon. We should mail ucc-announce with these. Meeting closed: 6:45pm
