UCC Committee Minutes 14-04-2009 Meeting opened at 16:04 Mussel Standard Time Present: [LOL] [M12] [SJY] [RVS] [DJA] [CJS] [NTU] [MRD] [TRS] Apologies: Absent: [DAA] [VIX] President's Report ------------------ - Had Cleanup, was good. - REMINDER FOR PEOPLE TO KEEP IT CLEAN. - Had LAN, was mediocre, needed additional Night Pass. - Had Monday at the Movies, watched Hackers, assumed to be good. - I installed Ubuntu on Catfish and Chaetodon, thanks to [DAA] and [TRS] for help. - Both still boot windows, yay for GRUB. - Catfish is happy, Chaetodon won't boot ubuntu. - Will install ubuntu on Cephalopod and Combtail later. - Will fix Chaetodon as well. Vice-President's Report ----------------------- - Overall it was a failed week; failed LAN. - However, Hackers was great. - Quiz night subcommittee had a meeting last night before MatM. Treasurer's Report ------------------ - Submitted year budget. - Completed assignments. - Life is good. [TRS] arrives. Secretary's Report ------------------ - Did not get night pass. - Had work on thursday and saturday and thought I could get it on Friday. - Turns out, UWA is in fact not open on Good Friday. - Emailed Dom Rose but could not get in contact with him in time. - We should host another LAN some time soon to make up for the failure of the previous one. - Checked mail on Wednesday. Fresher Rep's Report -------------------- - Email about projects sent to ucc@. - Project related wiki articles are fairly limited/out of date. - [DJA] to update project wiki articles. - Freshers are mostly happy. Machine Technical Reports ------------------------- Servers: - No changes. [DJA] leaves. Network: - Bright link has been better this week due to fewer college students. Desktops: - Catfish boots Ubuntu. - Chaetodon, Cephalopod and Combtail will be able to soon as well. - [LOL] plans to update the wiki with instructions on how to set up member logins on club machines. - [MRD] is dealing with apollo, still waiting for a quote. - Can't claim Tricare on apollo because it was purchased in [LAW]'s name. - Sacrilege does not boot, 2 out of 5 disks do not work, and one of the broken disks contained the operating system. - [RVS] to fix sacrilege. Mail, Guild and SOC ------------------- - Several issues of Circuit Cellar are on the shelf beneath the amp. - SOC meeting is on the 28th. - 2nd semester grant should be paid by the end of the study break. General Business ---------------- - spartanhelmet : the 'wii situation' - People using the TV are loud, messy, and take up space. - Its current position prevents the use of 2 computers and the project bench, also makes it difficult to access the safe. - However, the TV is also fun to play with. - If the TV is to stay in the clubroom then it is probably in the best place it can be right now. - Motion to remove the TV from the clubroom: 3 for, 2 against. [DJA] returns. - rvvs89 : Locking of William Moore's account - will2bill was caught torrenting copyright content on our network. - Has contacted committee expressing regret and says it was a mistake. - Motion to unlock will2bill's account: 5 for, 1 against. Motion passed. - [NTU] : Purchase of 100:1 attenuation CRO probe for $60 - Is useful amongst other things for sanity checking the drink machine. - Was approved in a previous committee meeting (2005-04-04) but was never actually purchased. - Motion to approve the purchase of the CRO prove: All for. Motion passed. - dja : AARNET email - There may be a case for UCC being charged at the student/staff rates rather than the affiliate rates. - [SJY] has already started a draft of the letter as suggested in an email from [RPS] - [SJY] to send draft email to [RPS] making a case to get these lower rates. - [M12] : Projector for UWA Pantomime Society - We don't currently have a projector on hand to loan. - [LAW] fixed a broken projector that had been donated to UCC some time last year, but it is not in Cameron Hall. - [TRS] : Quiz Night - Posters and tickets being printed tomorrow. - [M12] is almost ready to send the official announcement to ucc-announce@ pending approval from quiz@.
