President's Report

Vice President's Report

  • Wrote the Deloitte draft prospectus.
    • Told them we haven't fully prepared for next year, but did what I could.
  • Wrote up a bunch of things about OGM items.
  • Is planning on running for President
  • Thanks [TEC] for spamming [MPT] to do things
    • It was annoying but effective
    • [MLG]: Sounds like a new candidate for VP...
  • Power outage made a solid oof today (wording of [THA]'s own craftsmanship).

  • We need to start actually doing some stuff
  • I've got a few ideas
  • Facebook / online presence
    • Need to do facebook posts (unfortunately)
    • Thanks to ben for revamping the website
    • Could also put up posts on website (in form of blog?)
  • MU has it's "Mathematical Mondays" series
    • we could do something similar (Technical Tuesdays?)
    • Talk about generally interesting stuff in the tech world
      • e.g. How mac is based of bsd, and through unix mac and linux have a common origin; recap of the browser wars; hillarious stories of (usually costly) large-scale technical accidents…
    • rotate between committee members
    • works out to be 7.4 posts per committee member per year
  • Could also do 'Technical Thursdays'
    • A post specifically about things the club offers it's members
    • or cool things members have done using club infrastructure
    • or cool tech stuff the club is currently doing
    • etc.
    • like 'Technical Tuesdays' rotate between committee members
    • combined this means each member of committee will have to write around one post a month

  • [FVP]'s old user account was causing issues and has now been deleted

    • The event shouldn't have had to have been moved just because of the OGM
    • Messages have gone up to say that the event has been moved
  • Original plan for event was as laptop-friendly as possible
    • It is possible that we might need to get a switch upstairs and do some wiring
    • We need people around on Saturday to help

  • Keep an eye on how convocation clubs proposal proceeds

  • Draft welcome messages and welcome emails and an email to explain our standing on defamatory content
  • Create a webpage of all active committee resolutions, motions and constitutional interpretations

[TEC]

  • Investigate discord bots for nicknames and make discord more welcoming

General Business

  • [MPT] motion to declare the position of Fresher Rep absent

    • [MVP]: What happens if we can't fill the position?
      • [MPT]: We don't actually need to necessarily fill the position according to the constitution, just hold the election
    • [MVP] seconds

    • Position of Fresher Rep is vacant

  • [TEC] pending any modifications arising from discussion, I move to organise (and minute) roster for committee members to start 'Technical Tuesdays' and 'Technical Thursdays' (right now)

    • Deloitte sponsorship email (recieved 14th Oct, deadline 18th Oct)
      • [MPT] hashed it out in the wee hours of the morning and then finished it almost too late
    • Chevron email (recieved 1st Oct)

    • Revisit [UMP]'s club plan

        • Possibly ambitious to schedule things for October
          • Exams/dissertations are an oof
        • Shape is good and we should definitely work on it
